Masculinity is discipline. Accountability. Integrity. Resilience. Endurance.
It is understanding that what you feed your mind and what you feed your body eventually becomes who you are. Your mental and physical diet is either the fuel that carries you forward in your pursuit of purpose or the weight that ultimately holds you back.
Masculinity is a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to continual growth. It is the relentless pursuit of becoming a better man, not only for yourself, but for your family, your community, and the world around you. It is understanding that your efforts, your actions, and your works leave a lasting impact.
It is being the rock when others are shaken. Being the voice of reason when emotions run high. Being a leader when others need direction, and having the courage to stand alone when no one is willing to follow what you know is right.
It is being a provider. A protector. A man of character whose presence brings stability, strength, and security to those he loves.
These are the principles I think of when I speak about manhood. And I strongly believe that these principles are most often passed from man to man. From a father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, mentor, or another positive male figure willing to lead by example.
I was blessed to receive these lessons from my father.
Because of the standards he set and the example he exhibited, I stand today confident in who I am and secure in my masculinity. The values he instilled in me continue to guide my decisions, shape my character, and challenge me to become the best version of myself. Even now, I am still striving to grow because that is what he taught me: a good man never stops becoming.
Fathers, your role is profoundly important. Never allow anyone in this modern age of technology, social media, and endless opinions to convince you otherwise. The influence you have reaches farther than you may ever know. The lessons you teach, the example you set, and the love you give help shape future generations.
Today, we celebrate you.
Happy Father’s Day.
