Somewhere (Music Lights the Way)

Listening to Corrine Bailey Rae…

Music lights the way

I am drawn into the soul of the music

It penetrates my spirit – invades my soul

It un-breaks my heart, makes it whole

The music controls my pulse and the way I breathe

Where faith was once lost, it makes me believe

It calms the beast within and brings me peace

The music opens a path for the tension to be released

It opens my broken heart to the possibilities of love

To the journey of trying to find love and its depths

To the vulnerability of opening up oneself

To the joy, sadness, ecstasy, and pain of it all

It gives me the desire to take the dive, to fall

To be willing to fall again – a journey of unrestrained beauty

One could only care, one could only dare

I don’t know where she is or who she is

But I believe, I have faith that she is out there…Somewhere

Author’s Commentary:

Music has a powerful impact on the human spirit. We love to listen to it while we work, while we exercise, while we clean, while we cook, while we make love. It is an integral part of the human experience.

One of my favorite musical artists is Corrine Bailey Rae. There is something about her music that is very soulful – very honest and magnetic. Impactful artists give their listeners the feeling that he or she is somehow speaking for them – that is why we feel so connected to certain music more than others. Because our spirit has been impacted by the lyrics, the voice, and the music. The music captures you in the moment and creates a spiritual experience.

The powerful mix of Corrine’s voice, her lyrics, and the musical instruments open my mind and heart to emotions that I thought were closed off and never to be discovered again. Maybe it was her music that provided my heart therapy and drove me to the revelation that my broken heart can heal and love again.

I am in no rush, but I find joy in knowing that, when the time is right, I can open my heart again and fall in love. As with anything worth pursuing and attaining, there is risk in opening up to someone. The ultimate is that we risk getting our heart broken again, but without such risk, we can never experience love and the greatest prize of all – unconditional love.

Thank you, Corrine!
