A Love Story Unfinished

A short story…

It was a quarter till eight and just like clockwork, he was leaving the coffee shop to head into the office. But as he crossed the street, that’s when he saw her. The summer breeze blew her hair into her face, but she brushed it away. He gasped. She was just as breathtaking as she was a decade ago. A beautiful vision to behold. Yet, she was his scar.

She was his deepest pain. Because everyone had told him that time heals all wounds, yet it had been ten years to the day and he had yet to get over her. He had loved other women after her, of course, but he never loved anyone else as deeply as he’d loved her.

She gave him something that no one had ever given him. She made him feel seen.

She saw him for who he was, and just being himself was enough. She fully embraced him. She made him feel like a king, she made him feel great. In fact, that is what she called him – Greatness.

She made him feel loved abundantly and purely. And he knew it when he met her that he’d found his queen. She was even more beautiful than he had envisioned his queen to be. She was elegant. She was graceful. She was kind. She was spiritual. She was divinely feminine. She was everything that he ever hoped for.

And then the Fates separated them…

But on this day, here she was, only a few feet away. Here was his chance. Maybe she was married with children. Just maybe she was waiting for her husband. Maybe life had changed her. Who knows. But maybe she never fully got over him either.

He was overwhelmed with emotion. He tried to resist the urge to call out to her, to approach her, but his heart pulled him towards her.

Just as it had done ten years ago.
